Before the Holiday Scale Freak-Out…

Pumpkin spice lattes. Apple cider donuts. Sweet treats everywhere we turn.

We are all enjoying fall and everything it has to offerโ€”and I want us to enjoy it!

But Halloween and all that candy arrive this weekend. Next week, we turn the calendar to November, and the holiday season starts picking up speed.

A little candy here. A seasonal coffee there. A few extra bites while baking.

The calories can add up. The scale can start creeping up. And eventually, we step on it and have that complete โ€œHOW did this happen?!โ€ moment.

That happened to me last year.

My pumpkin spice latte had become a daily ritual. What started as an occasional seasonal treat was showing up day after day.

This year, Iโ€™m approaching the season with a little more intention.

You donโ€™t have to follow a strict diet throughout fall and the holidays. You can enjoy your favorite foods while keeping a few dependable habits in place.

My approach starts with three simple habits, plus three optional supplement supports.

My 3-Step Habit System

1. Eat Protein FIRST at Every Meal

Before filling up on bread or diving into the sides, start with the protein on your plate.

Think eggs at breakfast, chicken or tuna at lunch, and fish, turkey, or another protein you enjoy at dinner.

Protein helps make a meal satisfying and supplies the building blocks your body needs to maintain muscle. Starting there also reminds you to give it a place on your plate before getting distracted by everything else on the table.

My usual order is:

Protein โ†’ Fiber-rich vegetables โ†’ Slow-burn carbohydrates

You can still enjoy your favorite holiday sides. Give the protein a little attention first.

2. Eat One Large Salad with Lean Protein Each Day

This is one of my favorite ways to keep a dependable meal in the middle of a busy season.

Start with greens and vegetables you enjoy. Add lean protein. Finish with a dressing and toppings you love, keeping portions in mind.

Make it easy with rotisserie chicken, leftover turkey, tuna, or shrimp.

Having one familiar, balanced meal takes some of the decision-making out of the day. Even when dinner involves a party or restaurant reservation, youโ€™ve already made room for vegetables and protein.

If raw vegetables donโ€™t agree with your digestion, try cooked vegetables with lean protein instead. Choose a nourishing meal you can comfortably enjoy.

3. Walk for 10โ€“15 Minutes After Meals

You donโ€™t have to wait until January to make movement part of your day.

Take a short walk after lunch. Invite your family out after dinner. Walk indoors when the weather doesnโ€™t cooperate.

Start after one meal and build from there as your schedule and ability allow.

Think of it as a few minutes to move, clear your head, and step away from the kitchen.

And during the holidays, it can become a lovely family tradition. Finish dinner, put on your coats, and enjoy the neighborhood decorations together.

My 3 Simple Supplement Supports

Alongside those habits, my routine includes Gut Health Duo, Balance, and Gold.

While food is the foundation, supplements fill in the gaps in nutrition.

1. Gut Health Duo: Renew + Refresh

My Gut Health Duo combines Renew and Refresh for complementary digestive support.

Renew contains probiotics and prebiotics and is formulated to support the gut microbiome. Refresh is formulated to support digestion, nutrient breakdown, and gut comfort.

When digestion works more efficiently, metabolism works more efficiently. Its like getting a tune-up for your car!

Find the Gut Health Duo here.

2. Balance: Support Before My Two Biggest Meals

I drink Balance before my two biggest meals of the day to make me feel fuller quicker and help manage the munchies and cravings later.

The goal is to feel satisfied with a balanced meal and be more intentional about between-meal snacking.

Balance includes a fiber blend. It complements my meals rather than replacing the protein, vegetables, and other nourishing foods on my plate.

Find Balance here.

This is also a reminder to pause before eating. Am I sitting down for a satisfying meal, or am I grazing my way through the afternoon?

3. Gold: Immunity Support + a Potential Skin Glow

Gold is formulated to fight inflammation / puffiness, support healthy immunity, and may help promote glowing, radiant skin.

I include Gold as another layer of wellness support during a busy season when taking care of ourselves can easily slip down the priority list.

Find Gold here.

None of these supplements cancels out extra calories or guarantees weight loss. Follow current label directions and check with your clinician or pharmacist about suitability, especially if you take medication or have a digestive condition.

Let a Treat Be a Treat

My biggest lesson from last fall wasnโ€™t that I could never have another pumpkin spice latte.

It was that I needed to notice when an occasional treat had become a daily ritual.

Have the apple cider donut you look forward to all year. Choose the Halloween candy you actually love. Enjoy a slice of your favorite holiday pie.

Sit down. Taste it. Enjoy it.

Then return to your usual habits at the next meal.

One indulgence does not require giving up on the rest of the dayโ€”or waiting until Monday to begin again.

It also helps to choose the seasonal treat you most want. If youโ€™re looking forward to dessert tonight, perhaps todayโ€™s coffee can be your usual order. You donโ€™t have to say yes to every seasonal offering to enjoy the season.

Make Room for Flexibility

I like to use my 5/2 principle: each week five days centered on my usual healthy habits, with more flexibility on two days.

That flexibility leaves room for a dinner invitation, a seasonal favorite, or a family celebration.

Flexible days still include regular meals, protein, vegetables, and attention to comfortable fullness. And if a celebration falls on a Tuesday, I adjust.

The 2 days of flexibility do NOT need to be consecutive.

This is a routine that needs to fit real life.

Start Before January

At your next meal, start with protein.

Plan your salad with lean protein.

Find a few minutes for a walk.

Those small choices give you something steady to return to through Halloween, Thanksgiving, and the holiday parties ahead.

You can enjoy the traditions, make the memories, and eat the foods you look forward toโ€”all while continuing to care for yourself.
