10. Ditch the Prints

No one on this planet has advocated harder against prints for women over 50 than me…other creators followed.

Busy prints can date an outfit, compete with your natural beauty, and often create a mental association with retailers that cater exclusively to older women.

Instead, build your wardrobe around solid colors.

Solids are timeless, sophisticated, and effortlessly chic. They also make mixing and matching much easier, allowing you to create more outfits with fewer pieces.

There are exceptions, of course. Classic patterns like stripes, gingham, and houndstooth never go out of style. I also love adding personality through printed scarves, handbags, or shoes, and subtle patterns that read as texture from a distance.

The goal is simple: let people notice you, not your clothes.

3. Create Shape Instead of Hiding

One of the biggest mistakes women make after 50 is buying larger clothes in an attempt to hide their changing bodies.

Unfortunately, oversized clothing often makes us look larger—not smaller.

Instead, create shape.

Pair loose tops with more streamlined bottoms.
