To say the past week at my day job has been stressful is an understatement…
On Monday, I had my fill of all I could take. I told my husband that I was going for a drive to shake it off. And this is what I came home with.
Spring arrives late in Northern Michigan. Way late. We don’t get leaves on the trees until Mother’s Day. This is much different from my upbringing in Georgia and Alabama where the Spring flowers are all but gone by the end of April and the temperatures are beginning to soar.
But the tulips are just beginning to bloom in Northern Michigan at the end of April and daffodils are everywhere. So I brought home an array of daffodils, hyacinth, and pansies to bring me a little joy…and a lot of peace…as a respite from my stressful workday. The fragrant hyacinth makes my smile – and pause – every time I walk in and out of our front door.
Am I a master gardener? Nope. Martha Stewart perfectionist? Not even close. Did I wear this outfit to pot these flowers? NO WAY. But it made me feel even better to wear a cute outfit…with a pretty no tuck top…and take photo with my new flowers.
The porch needs a power washing. The house exterior needs a good scrubbing after the long winter. Spring yard cleanup isn’t complete. But that can all wait as it will get done in due time. Spring blooms don’t last long. I would like to just sit and enjoy their beauty for the few days that these blooms grace me with their presence. That’s why we garden, don’t we? At least that is why I garden: for the beauty, peace, and serenity.
I understand that the temperatures are getting quite warm in some parts of North America and that some of you are ready for Summer Outfits. But for me, I am just seeing the first signs of Spring and warm weather. Summer is coming, for sure. But let me enjoy my Spring for just a bit before we jump to Summer Fashion.
